Refugium
Initial Conditions
It is 2300.
Especially in the last century, life on Earth has lost tremendous quality. Environmental disasters have risen to a maximum due to global warming, and the time has come to say goodbye to the earth for good. Maybe it is only for a certain period of time, but maybe it will take a few „human lifetimes“ until the resources on Earth have recovered and we can come back with a new consciousness.
Now it is official: for almost 100 years researchers have been experimenting to „build on Mars“. Various materials were researched and about 30 years ago there was a breakthrough – the Regolith of Mars was successfully deprived of its rays. Now, this can be done within a few minutes, in a factory that has been built and intensively tested by a permanent research station. The extracted radiation is used to generate energy that robots use to 3D print buildings on Mars.
The REFUGE
The newly developed techniques are now being used to build living space on Mars. A REFUGE offers space for about 20-25 people. This can include families, couples or singles. In a REFUGE, living together in a community should play a major role.
In addition to dining and sleeping areas, the buildings also have work, leisure or fitness areas. Thus, each REFUGE becomes its own ecosystem, a small city. In order to create an exchange between the REFUGEs, there are also different specialist and working areas in each one. In this way, a sense of community is created.
